UPDATE: Change of Venue!

UPDATE – 8/8/2009
As Roy has pointed out, it looks like there are only one or two of us who wanted to stick around in the area, so we’ll be caving and driving up north later today. If you managed to come across this post and were planning on heading to the VA shindig, please head on up to Baltimore.

Due to concerns regarding the venue and proximity of the updated location for the previously scheduled preDevCamp for Washington-Baltimore, which came to my attention earlier today, I’ve scrambled to ascertain consensus from preDevCamp registrants whether they would like to meet at the Maryland venue, or if they would like to try to meet somewhere closer to home.

Luckily for us, developer Roy Sutton has come to the rescue! He has taken the liberty of reserving a closed-off meeting room at the Bear Rock Cafe West Lee in Arlignton from 12-Noon to 6 PM. Please see the directions and link to Google Maps below.

12:00 PM-6:00 PM
Bear Rock Cafe West Lee
2200 N. Westmoreland St.
Arlignton, VA 22213

If there are any questions or concerns, complaints or threats, please feel free to email me at thyn...@thynctank.com. We hope to see you all there!

Organizing

So I know I can’t be the only developer in the DC metro area who’s interested in Palm’s new webOS or the Pre. There’s gotta be, what, at least two more of us?

Point being, why don’t we organize a meetup? Let’s share what we’ve learned (so far all most of us will have done is glean hints from the piddly little videos Palm has put out, some of us just might have juicy information from working with the pre-release SDK), what we’re learning and what we know from related projects, so we can all attack this new platform as best we can.

In the coming months as new information is released (via the Rough Cuts book O’Reilly has started releasing in increments, via gossip sites, via official videos) I will be posting news here and via Twitter (http://twitter.com/thynctank) and look forward to hearing what other locals have to say.

Once the SDK/tools are finally released, we’ll arrange a meetup somewhere in the area, but for the time being it’s all about the benjamins news bytes/documentation leakage, baby.

So join up, contribute and let’s do the damned thing together!
